Steven Spazuk is a Canadian-born artist who has been perfecting at the technique called fumage for 14 years. He uses candles and torches to create stunning pictures. His technique implies improvisation, because no two trails of soot are exactly the same. So even Steven Spazuk doesn’t know what he’ll get in the end. The artist should be very careful: fire would easily burn the canvas if he lingers for a moment. As a reward he gets unbelievably soft lines and contours. Birds are one of the main themes of Spazuk’s pictures.
